"...Go and make disciples of all nations.."From 1859 to the present, hundreds of missionaries from the Presbyterian Church USA have set off with their families to a faraway land that spoke an unfamiliar language in an often rugged yet beautiful developing country, Brazil. Through their ministry these missionaries have touched and changed thousands of lives for the better. Churches, schools, and hospitals were founded that brought hope, education, and healthcare to many people in need. This is the story of their journey. It is not just an American story, however - it is the story of both American and Brazilian Presbyterians and how partnership has been developed between them. From the first American missionary, Ashbel Green Simonton's arrival in Rio de Janeiro in 1859, to Rev. Dr. Samuel S. Rizzo, the first Brazilian missionary arriving in the United States in 1927. The mission has come full circle. The purpose and intent of this website is to glorify God by recounting the works of His servants, the missionaries of the Brazil mission. By documenting their stories and photographs, it is hoped that their messages may be a blessing to others. Each of them have rich tales to share that range from the halls of the National Congress and the Presidency to the most remote villages in the interior of Brazil accessible only by horse, river boat or aircraft. Armed with faith and perseverance, great hardships and obstacles were overcome in order to share the timeless message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Theirs is a wonderful story of hope, triumph, and, victory, though often mingled with pain. The sections of this website include: History - includes a compilation of articles from both American and Brazilian sources that describes the timeline of events that marked the Presbyterian mission work in Brazil as well as a general history of Presbyterianism in that country.
