History of the Presbyterian Church in Brazil
The history of the Presbyterian church in Brazil is as fascinating as the history of Presbyterianism. Internal debate regarding doctrine and direction have shaped the Brazil Presbyterian mission much like Presbyterianism was shaped. Both are rich in heritage. Below are articles that detail this journey from the beginning with John Calvin and John Knox to the various missions of the "northern" and "southern" churches in the USA and how that division eventually was healed and the role of the American Missions in Brazil was ended. These documents also present the organizational structure of the various Missions in Brazil which define the geographical (and political) areas where individual missionaries served. The history of Brazilian Presbyterianism is also documented. The Presbyterian Church of Brazil (IPB), founded by American Presbyterian missionaries, has since been divided into several denominations which use the name “Presbyterian”. These churches are following in the footsteps of the PCUSA by sending out their own missionaries to other countries including the United States of America.
