Donald William Kaller and Gerry Prichard Kaller  1957 - 1976

Don hails from St. Louis, Missouri, and Gerry from Memphis, Tennessee.  They met in Richmond, Virginia, as students at Union Theological Seminary and the Assembly’s Training School (now Presbyterian School of Christian Education.  They married after Don graduated in 1955, and moved to Hampton, Virginia.  Don served as Assistant Minister at First Presbyterian Church for two years, and during that time their first-born arrived: Anita Lynn.  They went to Brazil in 1957 with the Board of World Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S., commissioned as evangelistic missionaries with the West Brazil Mission.   After completing a year of study at the Language School in Campinas, they moved to Patrocinio, Minas Gerais.  Don served the Monte Carmelo field which consisted of fifteen churches and thirty preaching points.  Gerry worked with mothers teaching hygiene and nutrition for children and working in Christian Education in the local Presbyterian Church.  During this time three more daughters arrived: Lisa Katherine, Janet Ryan, and Anne Elizabeth.  Don also began teaching at the Edward Lane Bible Institute.

1962 was spent in the U.S. speaking in many churches and in study, with St. Louis as home base.  They returned to the field in 1963. Don served as the President of the Edward Lane Bible Institute and Gerry continued her work in the local church as well as home schooling their children.  During this term Don taught a number of courses at the school and was one of the founders and head of the Seminary Extension Course  (COSE).  Fifteen young men graduated, were ordained, and served in Goias in a newly formed Presbytery.  Don was also instrumental in forming CEIBEL, which trained lay pastors.  He wrote programmed instructional text books, including Homiletica I, Seitas I, Estudo Programado da Confissao de Westminster,  Um Estudo do Evangelho Segundo Sao Joao, Um Estudo Indutivo do Profeta  Habacuque,  Homiletica II, Seitas II Analise da Renovacao Pentecostal and Aconselhamento Cristao:  Uma Introducao. These books are still being used in the Extension Course of the Bible Institute.  Don also served as the Secretary of West Brazil Mission for several years.  In early 1966 Jeffrey William was added to the family.

During their next home assignment Don and Gerry itinerated  extensively, based in Memphis, where Don completed his Masters in Educational Administration and Supervision  at Memphis State University (now University of Memphis).  They returned to the field in early 1968, continuing at the Bible Institute in Patrocinio, where Don was President as well as Director of CEIBEL.   He also wrote Apocalipse: Um Estudo Programado.  Gerry worked in Christian Education.

In addition to a year of home assignment in 1972 they took a  year leave of absence so Don could complete his doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision at Memphis State.  They returned to Brazil in 1974 and Don became Director of CEIBEL and continued teaching at the Institute.  He was elected President of the Evangelical Association of Seminary by Extension  and wrote an article published in Christianity Today.

They felt led to return to the U.S. in mid-1976, to care for ill parents and family members.  Since then Don has served as pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Alabama, Springdale Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, and Associate Pastor  for Administration and Education at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in St. Louis, Missouri.  Gerry was Director of Covenant School of Fine Arts for several years and Director of Children’s Ministries at Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in St. Louis.   The Kallers retired in 1995, moving to Florence, Alabama, where Don served as interim pastor twice.  They have continued to be active in mission opportunities with local churches, Hispanic groups and with Living Waters for the World water purification.  Presently they are living in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
