Mish Kids
Most of the missionaries serving in Brazil had families and children. These kids became known as "Mish Kids" and there were plenty of them. Some were only infants when they left the USA for Brazil, others were born in Brazil. All have wonderful stories to tell. Most mish Kids would probably tell you that growing up in Brazil as the son or daughter of a missionary was one of the most fabulous experiences they have ever had in life. Yes, there were hardships and life wasn't easy. But, friendships that were made with other mish kids tended to be very strong and enduring. Sometimes the mish kids only saw each other once a year during mission meeting. Other's lived in cities nearby and contacts were more frequent. All mish kids referred to other missionary parents as Aunts and Uncles. This was a tradition and in many ways a reality as well since all real relatives were thousands of miles away in the USA. The bond was as strong as any family bond and they have also endured decades.
In the gallery below are photographs just some of the many Mish Kids.
